Comparing Music Video Genres

I have been researching into different genres of music videos, to analysis different music and situations, in order to prepare myself with ideas for making my own music video.

RAP
Eminem ft. Lil Wayne-No Love

I have chosen "No Love" by both Eminem and Lil Wayne as they are both a very well known rap artists, and are both very successful in the work that they do. I love the video to this as it is both performance and narrative, and the lyrics have a strong relationship to the music video, with especially specific lyrics like "You can keep knocking, but won't knock me down." These translates to the video as young boys getting bullied by older kids. There are over 65,004,123 views currently on You Tube and is constantly growing.

ALTERNATIVE ROCK
Blur-Coffee and TV

Although i do not listen to this genre of music, I very much like the music video as well as the lyrics. Here, is both a performance and a narrative video, and it is very unique, with many special effects used, for example "a dancing carton of milk" around the streets, and it is actually the milk carton that tells the story of the song, relating to the lyrics. Blur has only 2,042,128 views on YouTube but still r;epresents the Alternative Rock scene well.

ROCK
Queen-Bohemian Rhapsody

I chose the Queen Official video as it was a performance video. I feel that this song has become ever so famous and successfully well known since release, as well as a cover made by "The Muppet's." This video has been so ell known and managed to receive over 54,736,452 views on YouTube.

POP

Britney Spears-Hit Me Baby One More Time

I thought that Britney Spears song was perfect for the representation of the genre "POP." "Hit me Baby One More Time" was released in 2003 and has reached over 51,984,735 views YouTube. This video is narrative and has a slow pace editing intervened with some fast pace music. The video includes a school girl in class, with diegetic noises of a foot tapping the table, the pencil on paper etc.

R&B
Chris Brown-Forever
To view the video, please click here.
Chris Brown is a successful artist and has been around in the music industry for many years. The song "Forever" brings out a good representation for the R&B genre. The official video has over 76,973,224 views on YouTube. The video itself has many special effects added into this and mainly fast pace editing to keep up with the fast pace of the song and beat.
